MATSYS Honeycomb

This research develops a honeycomb system that is able to adapt to diverse performance requirements through the modulation of the system’s inherent geometric and material parameters while remaining within the limits of available production technologies. The Honeycomb Morphologies Project is based on the desire to form an integrated and generative design strategy using a biomimetic approach to architectural design and fabrication.

  1. Nice summary of this project. What do you think some of the performance requirements may be?

  2. Performance can be comprised of two topics: Effect & Affect.

Effectively, such a construct can be a visual screen. Depending on its form, it could also be acoustically dampening. Also, horizontal cut outs can be functional storage space.

Affectively, there is something fantastic a process driven construct. This construct implies that it once had a different form, but is now frozen. I think that affect is also considered through material and color selection.
